Edinburgh, Scotland Part 4

Castles have been used for residence, forts, and military stand for kings and queens. Mainly it has been and is used for housing for the royal family. Doune and Linlithgow Castles have been changed to become homes for the kings and queens of the Scottish family.

Linlithgow Palace start as a housing place for the kings and queens of Scotland. James I started the construction in 1424. Different people lived here such as James V, Mary Queen of Scots, and Princess Elizabeth. It was a nice palace to live until a fire broke out and destroyed the residence. Also, it was slowly declining when the northern quarters which is allegedly believed that is where the queen apartment was, and that is where supposedly Mary grew up. That started to break down in 1607, and then James VI tried to have it rebuilt in 1620 when that fire happened. Also, there was an invasion from Edward I of England that left the palace even more in damages. The original palace didn’t survive, however James I and his descendants start to reconstruct it which is today more preserved while in ruins. People can take tours and it is a peaceful places to see by the water.

Not only is there Linlithgow Palace, but there is Doune Castle which was also used for residence. Robert Stewart who was the first Duke of Albany was the ruler and guardian over Scotland. He was not politically sound and he wasn’t in the best physical health due to an injury. He ruled for two years and Doune has been officially become a royal castle after Albany and his son were executed by James I. Doune was trying to become impressive so that the ruler of the palace could be in good authoritative standing within the royal court. The castle has the great hall which has a gallery of musicians, a double fireplace, and it is also has a kitchen for visitors to see. It is an interesting castle to witness on the adventure.

Castles served many purposes specifically residence for Doune and Linlithgow. These castles are good visits for anybody wants to learn about history and be in awe of the beauty. Castles can be used for many good reasons and it is also helps to keep history alive.
